Nanomachines, son
See related pages: Guide to Medicine, Guide to chemistry, Chemical recipes

Nanites are <s>powerful</s> an alternative tool for passive regeneration. This guide will explain how to NOT DIE FROM USING THEM, how to use them effectively, possible approaches and best selection of music.

Nani is nanite?
Medical nanites are a self replicating reagent which heals BRUTE and BURN in exchange for you blood. When injected, they will need to adjust to your body. During that time you will take constant damage, which will stop after a few minutes.

When ready, nanites will heal 3 of either BRUTE or BURN per tick(roughly 2 seconds), in exchange for 0.5u of Nanites. If both are present, both are healed for 1u of Nanites. While above 5u, they will stunt felt pain, equal to Tramadol, and heal 0.15 TOX.

How to die
* Just inject nanites and walk away
* Don't use other medicine or eat food
* Fight with xenos often
* Avoid medics
* Go into melee with Defiler

How to die less
* Use Dylovene, Bandages, and ointment while the nanites settle in.
* Carry and use Isotonic Solution/Saline-Glucose, Quick clot, and food.
* Pace yourself between fights, it can take upwards of five minutes to regenerate nanites from "empty" (5u).

Effective use of nanites
Injecting nanites
For the first 75 ticks, or about 2-3 minutes, causes BRUTE and BURN (mild but increases gradually), as well as 1 TOX and 1.5 STAM damage, as the body acclimates to the nanites, replicating at a rate of 0.4u in the meanwhile.

Nanites also will purge most healing chems while they are in your system, so keep some ointment or bandages on hand while the process is going. I recommend you sit around and wait with a medical scanner to check your progress and heal up with Dylovene, Ointment, and Bandages as needed. All of these can be found in MarineMed Vendors.

Restoring nanites
* If nanites level is below 30u, it consumes blood at a rate of 2u in order to create 0.15u of nanites per tick.
* If nanites level is above 30u but below 35u, you will gain 0.1u nanites per tick. This does not consume blood!
* If nanites level is 35u, No restoration will occur. You are at your max "safe" capacity for nanites.
* If nanites level is above 36u, they will OD and purge 0.25u per tick and deal 1 TOX.

How to restore blood
Your body will naturally restore lost blood depending on your current nutrition level.

*While <span style="color:red">Starving</span> you will restore 0.1u of blood per tick, <span style="color:orange">Hungry</span> to <span style="color:blue">Full</span> will restore 0.5u, and <span style="color:grey">Over Fed</span> will restore 1u. If you do not see any of these icons, you are <span style="color:green">Well fed</span> or <span style="color:blue>Full</span>.

The following reagents will augment your natural blood restoration.
* Quick-clot will increase your blood restoration by 0.2u, and halt all internal bleeding which can put you out of action if you ignore it. Quick-clot is consumed very slowly 0.05u per tick so one pill will last for about 6.6 minutes.
** Note: pill default is 10u, OD is 15u
* Isotonic solution/Saline-Glucose will restore 1.2u of blood per tick, which is more than half the 2u of blood consumed by nanites. It does metabolize faster than most chems, at a rate of 0.4u per tick. One pill (15u) will only last a little more than a minute!
* Nutriment found in food and protein shakes will increase your nutrition levels faster than they will decrease as you regenerate blood, it also increases your blood restoration by 0.4u per tick.
** Iron and sugar no longer have any impact on blood restoration.
* Nanoblood, a chem that Corpsmen may have, will restore 2.4 to 4.8u of blood per tick depending on how much blood has been lost, it should only be used while out of combat, as it causes STAM damage which will quickly stop you in your tracks if you try running headlong into battle.

In addition to reagents, there are other ways of restoring blood, using IV blood bags that can be found in Medbay, and Syringes filled with blood.

Useful medicine
See Guide to chemistry', Chemical recipes

Having Medical Nanites in your blood will purge Bicaridine, Kelotane, Tramadol, Oxycodone, Tricordrazine, Meralyne, Dermaline, Paracetamol, Russian Red, and Doctors Delight at 5U per tick. This severely limits the options you have for healing chems beyond the passive heal Nanites themselves provide. Although Nanites are more effective than chems like Meralyne or Dermaline alone; this also means you cannot stack multiple healing sources at once (Bicaridine, Meralyne, and Tricord, for example). That being said; you can still take advantage of certain chemical inject bonuses like Oxycodone's ON INJECT status for healing 20 STAM.

Nanites are also unique in that they are not purged by other reagents like Hypervene or water. The only way to remove Nanites from someone is the use of the Dialysis function on Sleeper pods in medbay.
* Note: Defilers have a unique ability that will purge your nanites if it is used on you, a puff of red smoke is the indicator that they have used it on someone.

Useful chems include:

* Dylovene: Purges most toxins and also heals TOX damage. Useful for when your own Nanites OD you or you get hit by any Xeno that likes to throw toxins at you. Also its one of the chems not purged by Nanites.
* Inaprovaline: While not innately useful to you while you're alive it is nice to know that once you are dead and are revived Inaprovaline can be used to help get you back up to fighting order fast. <s>You can also use it as a weak painkiller since all the good stuff gets purged constantly.</s> It is not recommended to use Inaprovaline as a painkiller, as this will nullify any attempt at using it's ON INJECT effect.
* Quick-Clot: Quick-Clot (not Quick-Clot Plus) provides a passive blood rate increase while its in your system and is not purged by nanites, as well as having a very slow metabolic rate so it lasts a long time. Useful to help keep you topped up on red stuff.
* Isotonic/Saline-Glucose Solution Or Nanoblood: Both of these chemicals help restore blood. Blood is spent by Nanites to heal you. You need blood to live.
* Dexalin/Dexalin Plus: Did you know that if you have low blood you take Oxygen damage? These chemicals help fight oxygen damage from low blood. Its more a short term fix and if you keep losing the red stuff your gonna die so its more so to keep you going a little bit longer.
* Neuraline: One of the chems that can heal BURN and BRUTE damage that isn't purged by Nanites! But it does hit you with more toxin damage and is a pain to get ahold of. Useful for getting you back up and in the fight after you got mauled by Xenos.
* Imidazoline/Alkysine/Peridaxon Plus: You still have ORGAN, BRAIN, and EYES to worry about even with nanites. So these chemicals remain unchanged.
* Quick-Clot Plus: You still can take Internal bleeding, although if your medding up on Quick-Clot beforehand it should keep you stable.
* Synaptizine: Its pretty much an anti-stun chem that keeps you going between fights at the cost of Toxin damage. Just dont Overdose on the stuff and you will be fine.

<s>Gigachad use of nanites</s><br> A study of how the rework nerfed "Gigachad" nanite use
* Nanites restore themselves, BUT THIS IS SLOW. Gigachads don't wait. Gigachads hack the NT med vendor and take nanite bottles, and make nanite pills.
** 9u of Medical nanites can be created with 10u of Iron, 1u of lemoline, and 1u of Medical nanites(catalyst), if you're impatient, this is still an option!
* <s>Gigachads don't use healing pills every minute like a premed pussy, instead they use Paracetamol like real alpha males they are. They don't feel pain, they only feel the stamina gain and the blood of xenos on their hands.</s>
** Most medical chems, including Paracetamol, are purged by Nanites.
* <s>Gigachads don't like taste of Dylovene, because it tastes like purging Paracetamol. They like Hyronalin.</s>
** Nanites purge Paracetamol now. Such a sad time.
* <s>Gigachads don't use Tramadol as well, they feel sleepy after. They use Oxycodone instead, because it gives BIG WORDS in chat. Gigachads like big words.</s>
** Nanites purge both, but again you can take advantage of Oxy's ON INJECT
* Gigachads don't like being on the ground or stunned. They like running and killing xenos. They make Synaptizine (no more than 2u per inject) and add Hyronalin there.

Tips
* Defiler WILL kill you. Be careful.
* Once you start having breath problems, it means blood is low.
* Isotonic solution injector can be refilled in MarineMed. Just put it back and take new one.
* If you want to use the new pressurized medicine pouch for your quick clot and isotonic needs, fill it with a ratio of 1 unit quick clot to 8 units isotonic so they metabolize at the same speed.
* <s>Hypervene can purge nanites too!</s>
** Hypervene no longer purges Nanites.
* Nanites will only heal as long as you have atleast 5u in your system AND have completed the initialization period of 75 ticks. So they can be rendered non functional if you take too much damage and have to wait to get above 5u again.
* Being fat and using Isotonic is the easiest way of never running low on blood. Be sure to pack your favorite MRE in your boot!
* Individual MRE food items can be injected with reagents if you're trying to use as much space as possible for other things, add more protein from a Nanotrasen shake!
